Loughton Dental Spa

Loughton Dental Spa was established by Ritu Dhariwal in 2005 with the philosophy to deliver dental care gently and ethically, with an emphasis on delivering preventative care to benefit the health of your teeth and gums, with the aim to minimise the need for active intervention.

Having had the benefit of over 20 years of experience in general dental practice, Ritu is able to confidently offer a wide variety of treatments, using only the highest quality materials for durability and longevity at Loughton Dental Spa.

Ritu qualified from the world-renowned Kings College London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1994, and completed her 1 year full-time vocational training in Maidstone, Kent, she then worked in a well-established family dental practice in Wanstead, London, whilst studying for two years for her postgraduate  Masters degree in Gerodontics (dental care of the elderly) which she completed with distinction from the Royal London Hospital Dental School in 1997, with her thesis (Distinction) having the theme of bonding to dental tissue- something which has fascinated Ritu ever since!

Commitment to dental health

Tailored to you

Ritu then worked in Hornchurch, Essex until she decided to establish her own practice in Loughton and stay close to her family home.

Ritu enjoys art and the theatre and also enjoys delicious vegetarian meals out with her family and friends, with whom she also loves to travel.

She has a 12yr old daughter and a son aged 4 and, like them, was herself born and brought up in Essex and went to school in Woodford Green, where both her children also now go to school.

Ritu is committed to delivering excellent cosmetic results with the minimum of tooth tissue removal and holds a Certificate in Aesthetic Dentistry from London. She has also undergone training in composite bonding (tooth coloured fillings) and cosmetic layering in both New York and Belgium and, as for all the dentists at Loughton Dental Spa, enjoys regularly attending post-graduate meetings and courses to keep up to date with the latest technology, techniques and advances in dental materials.

Having had orthodontic treatment herself in her teens, Ritu understands how time consuming and frustrating wearing braces can be and is therefore pleased to be able to offer her adult patients cosmetic braces, including Six Month Smiles and Quick Straight Teeth which will straighten teeth in a fraction of the time required for conventional braces.

At Loughton Dental Spa, we offer a wide selection of dental treatment for all members of the family, both privately and on the NHS and are happy to discuss your individual needs and expectations.

We believe that nothing should get in the way of your dental health and will gladly help you through any personal anxiety to achieve that.

We welcome children and believe that it is important that they attend the dentist from an early age so that they are not fearful of visits but see it as a fun place to be!

Our waiting room has little chairs for them and is soon to be stocked with an activity cube and colouring books to keep them entertained.

Children are encouraged to look after their teeth by healthy eating and good brushing and in our practice we encourage the regular biannual professional application of a fluoride varnish in accordance with NICE guidelines for delivering better dental care.

A number of systematic reviews conclude that applications two or more times a year produce a mean reduction in cariesincrement (tooth decay of 37% in the primary dentition (milk or baby teeth) and 43% in the permanent dentition.)

At Loughton Dental Spa we are pleased to provide this biannual fluoride varnish application as a complimentary service for the benefit of our young and adolescent patients.

Twice daily brushing with a fluoride-containing toothpaste is also an important step to maintain healthy teeth.

Ideally foods that contain sugars should only be eaten when children have a main meal.

Most breakfast cereals contain lots of added sugars. Cereals such as Porridge or Shredded Wheat are better as long as sugar is not added to them.

Sugary and fizzy drinks are bad for teeth and take care with ‘low sugar’ drinks as the label may also reveal hidden sugars.

‘Healthy options’ such as fruit juice and smoothies are good for you but do contain hidden sugars, so only drink them at meal times and through a straw.

Water or milk are the best things to drink between meals and a good snack that is kind to teeth is cheese.

Tooth decay is caused by sugar and bacteria so it is important to cut down on the frequency of sugary foods and drinks. Good tooth brushing and a good diet work together to keep teeth happy and healthy.

Brush teeth really well last thing at night and at least once during the day with a fluoride-containing toothpaste.

Never give babies and young children anything other than water or plain milk in a baby bottle.
